SALTPETER

SaltPeter are the notorious and fabulous Salena Godden and Peter Coyte. It comes as no surprise that their combined family backgrounds of indigenous Jamaicans and London’s East End, makes the identifiable, distinctive sound it does. It is bold and rebellious, quintessentially British and very referential of a modern, provocative London.
Salena Godden is an established, published poet and performer whose sought after childhood memoir Springfield Road is to be published by HarperPress/Harper Collins in Spring 2009. Peter Coyte is a composer and sound-scape producer of performance, theatre, films and award winning documentary soundtracks.
Receiving praise and support from the likes of Lisa Stansfield “One of the most inspirational bands of our time” and Coldcut “This is the most exciting duo this side of Mars”. SaltPeter are now venturing out with the album HUNGER’S THE BEST SAUCE on exciting new label Fred. As the title suggests, the album covers themes of hunger, hunger for sex and excitement, hunger to belong and looking for love in all the wrong places. It is the belly-rumblings of the skint, the scams and the walk of shame, the morning after the night before and the fear of the night after that….
SaltPeter has produced an album to both go out and come home to. Sauntering through 7-day benders; laughing at one-night stands and the overheard conversations in pub toilets; it’s a wink a nudge, a slap-and-tickle commentary of London nightlife.
In SaltPeter’s new live show they become a quartet and are joined on stage by the New York rhythm section duo consisting of the tattooed and slinky D’Zebra Colby (Baby Strange, Alagator) on bass guitar and jazz dude Theolonious Moniak (Randy Herman & The Sceptre of Benevolence) on drums, bringing those sassy beats and grinding basslines to the party… totally live!
THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY
RATING: OUTSTANDING *****
“The Duryesque wordplay is delivered with just the right amount of warmth and throw away cool, and most of the darkly catchy, chorus heavy songs (co-written by band-mate Pater Coyte) could have graced the charts any time during the last 30 years, this is one of this years most promising debuts.”

THE PONY COLLABORATION

The Pony Collaboration formed five years ago in the quiet backwaters of Cambridgeshire. The 8-piece acoustic pop/Americana group put out their eponymous first album in April 2007 on Series 8 Records. This labour of love was very well received on release, with national radio play on Huw Stephens’ show on Radio 1 and on Radio 2 and Steve Lamacq hailing the debut single The Fast Lane as “charming and almost timeless”. The album was named as April 2007’s DisCover Album of the Month by Drowned In Sound. The band have also had great reviews from Whisperin’ And Hollerin’, Americana UK, Drowned In Sound, The Fly and several others.
With plenty of live experience under their belts, including a national tour to support the album’s release, The Pony Collaboration have also headlined Strawberry Fair in Cambridge and performed at Oxford’s Truck Festival. Their sound is likened to bands like The Delgados and Belle And Sebastian but their songs are very much their own; wry humour and heart-baring honesty run through the lyrics and catchy pop hooks sit alongside expansive and sweeping arrangements. The Pony Collaboration have recorded a follow-up album, to be released later this year.
‘This quintessentially British album reeks of quality. Simply divine’ (The Morning Star)
‘A brilliant and beautiful debut long-player. As a homegrown response to all things ‘Americana’, this oozes quality and delicate charm’ 10/10 (Whisperin’ & Hollerin’)
